Mohs surgery, developed by Dr. Frederick Mohs, is a specialized technique used to remove skin cancers. This unique approach involves the surgical removal, mapping, and microscopic examination of skin cancer. The use of the microscope intraoperatively allows the surgeon to offer the highest cure rate, while sparing normal healthy tissue to the greatest extent. The technique has a 99% cure rate for common types of skin cancer. Following the complete removal of skin cancer, your surgeon, who has been trained in reconstruction, will repair the defect created by removal of your skin cancer.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. This laser delivers a pulse of light directly to the skin. The light pulse is selectively absorbed by blood vessels or melanin pigment. It may be used to treat blood vessels in the skin, redness of the face, and sun spots, as well as improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks. This laser may also be used to treat many vascular lesions of childhood including hemangiomas, and port wine stains.

Fraxel® is a unique noninvasive laser therapy designed to dramatically improve skin texture and pigmentation, including the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, and sun damage. Fraxel utilizes fractional resurfacing technology, where only a small fraction of the skin receives the laser light. The treatment delivers a series of microscopic laser spots, while simultaneously preserving areas of unaffected, healthy skin. The healthy cells in the untouched spots promote rapid healing of the entire area, resulting in faster recovery time and minimal side effects. The result is softer, smoother and healthier skin without an uncomfortable healing period.
Please note - there are 3 different Fraxel lasers in use today. The one we use at Palm Harbor Dermatology is the Restore Laser, which has several years of safety data and efficacy to support its use. If you should have any questions or concerns regarding the Fraxel Restore Laser, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Photodynamic therapy involves the use of specific wavelengths of light to treat a variety of common skin conditions. This light may be combined with a topical photosensitizer, or used alone. Palm Harbor Dermatology offers both red and blue light therapy. The lights are effective in treating premalignant skin lesions and some superficial skin cancers.
Photodynamic therapy has also been found to be effective in treating acne vulgaris, and has been used for skin rejuvenation and improvement in periorbital wrinkles. The system used in our office has numerous FDA approvals, and is a simple noninvasive way of achieving excellent therapeutic results.
